Strike branding is the most well known of the branding
techniques. Unlike single strike cattle branding, where a design
is eteched or welded into a single piece of metal, strike branding
on humans usually incorporates a series of small strikes that
will form your design. This technique is called multiple strike
branding.
African slaves were often branded so the owners
could identify them as their property, just like cattle are often
branded today. A hundred years, or so, later African-American
fraternities reclaimed strike branding and turned it into an empowering
statement. Many frat associations still practice branding their
fraternal insignia, or greek letters, into willing members as
a show of dedication to each other. Since the ressurgance of piercing
and tattoo in western culture in the early 80s, branding has found
it's own in place modern body modification culture.
I have been strike branding friends and clients
for over ten years and it is by far my favorite of all the techniques
I offer.
